Bible
Study: Colossians1:1-8.
/ Luke 4:38-44.
Having left
the temple where he cast out a demon from a man with an unclean spirit, Jesus
is invited to Simon’s home. On getting there, Jesus brings healing to Simon’s
mother-in-law who was down with a high fever, once again showing the power of
the Holy Spirit at work in him. This woman not only received healing, she also
received the anointing to minister and she got up and served at table for Jesus
and his other disciples.
That same
night, the whole town gathered at the Simon’s house bringing with them those
who were oppressed by sickness and under satanic captivity and Jesus cured them
all. How beautifully this passage brings about the fulfilment of the words of
Isaiah prophesied hundreds of years before Jesus. God’s words are powerful. His
promises are sure. "For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and return not thither but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes
forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish
that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah
55:10-11
As we read
in Luke, chapter 4, verse 18: Isaiah himself had prophesied, “The Spirit of the
Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He
has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,” Luke 4:18. When Jesus said, in
verse 21 that “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing,” he wasn’t
just playing with words. He meant what he said.
Still in
the Spirit, Jesus rose very early in the morning to a quiet place all by
himself to pray. Prayer is fuel for the Spiritual life. A person who does not
pray cannot possibly grow in Spirit. He is like tap whose pipe has been cut
from the source. The tap is still there but no matter how you force it, it cannot
bring water but is dry all through within. Satan knows this, this is why he
tries to discourage us as much as possible from spending time with God in
prayer. He never stops bringing other things to distract us and keeps
suggesting to us that prayer is a waste of time.
If we must
fan into flames the Spirit of God in us, then we must retrace our steps in
prayer and reconnect to God our source.
Let us
pray:
Come Holy
Spirit. Fill me daily with your power, order my steps in your word. Transform
me completely and use me to touch the lives of all those I meet daily that
through your anointing, I may do great things for God. Amen.
Good morning.
Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you.
