Bible Study: Acts 9, 31 to 42 and John
6, 60 to 69.
It is not easy handling criticism from the same people who you
are trying to help. Here is Jesus talking about giving his own flesh and blood
for our salvation and behold the people were walking away from him. It must
have been very painful for Jesus to see his followers walk away but he wasn’t ready
to change his words, he wasn’t ready to tell them what they wanted to hear. He simply
said the truth and allowed those who wouldn’t believe go their way. Even he had
to ask the disciples, “would you also go away?”
Then Peter responded: “Lord, to whom shall we go?” The words of
Peter clearly shows that truly, there is nowhere else we can ever find
salvation other than in Jesus. At times, we tend to assume, we can afford to
get on in life by ignoring Jesus and his words. We believe we can survive without
the sacraments or that we can go on without having a personal relationship with
God.
No matter how difficult the demands of God may seem to us, the truth
is that we really have nowhere else to go. By leaving Jesus, did the crowds find
what they were looking for? Can we possibly find happiness and fulfilment in
life away from Jesus? If we believe that by following Jesus and striving to be
in a state of grace to receive his body and blood will prevent us from being
happy, can satan do any better for us?
In the end, we see the power of God at work in the disciples because
even through it was too difficult for them to understand, they remained with
Jesus. They ate his flesh and drank his blood and received the gift of eternal
life. Through Peter’s prayers, may received healing and even Dorcas was raised
from the dead. With Jesus in you through holy communion, there is nothing you
cannot accomplish.
Let us Pray:
Lord Jesus, I believe in you, help me to receive you worthily
each day and never to seek from the world that which you alone can give. Amen.
God bless you. Good morning. Be
Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. Happy Saturday.
