Are You Weak, Tired and Exhausted? Jesus says “Come!”

Wednesday 11th December 2019. Read Isaiah 40:25-31, Psalm 103 & Matthew 11:28-30.

“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:30-31)

When we are trying to describe something entirely new to someone, we often resort to comparisons so that the person can use the idea of what he knows already to understand what he does not know. So God says to Isaiah, “To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him?” This is a really tough question because, in truth, there is nothing we use to compare God.

Nevertheless, God came up with an answer: “The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.” (Isaiah 40:28-29)

Being tired is part of human nature. No matter how strong a person may be, he or she is bound to get tired once a while but no so with God. God is ever strong, ever powerful, ever reliable. As God is strong, so strong are those who place their complete trust in Him. “They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

In the same vein, we hear Jesus saying to us in today’s Gospel passage: “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)

Are you tired of the cross you are carrying? Jesus is saying to you today, “Come to Me.” Imagine if you get a call from the President and on a friendly note he says: “Come and see me.” Wouldn’t you celebrate it and be super excited? But here is Jesus who doesn’t need an election to remain King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Why are you hesitant in going to Jesus? How come you do not trust Him to take away your burdens?

_What a Friend we have in Jesus._
_all our sins and griefs to bear!_
_What a privilege to carry._
_everything to God in prayer!_

_O what peace we often forfeit,_
_O what needless pain we bear,_
_All because we do not carry_
_everything to God in prayer._

Finally, do not forget that coming to Jesus is not simply a matter of going to lie down before the Blessed Sacrament or just saying a short prayer. Coming to Jesus entails carrying Jesus’ yoke and bearing His burden. Coming to Jesus entails that we live by His Light and do His Will.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, I trust you and I know you will never fail me. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (Wednesday of the 2nd Week of Advent. Bible Study: Isaiah 40:25-31, Psalm 103:1-4.8.10 and Matthew 11:28-30).
