Wednesday 16th November 2022. Read Rev. 4:1-11, Ps. 150, Luke 19:11-28
“I tell you, to all those who have, more will be given; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.” (Luke 19:26)
The key to understanding today’s Gospel passage lies in its introduction: “Jesus proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately.” In other words, the purpose of the parable is to show that the end of the world is certain but, in the meantime, we must focus on making use of our gifts and talents.
In the parable, ten servants were given ten coins. Each servant had a coin and the master told them to trade with these coins till his return. One of them decided not to do anything. This particular servant represents those who hide their talents, those who would rather prefer to remain idle and do nothing because of their anticipation for the end of the world.
Let us get busy with our lives and our talents while we wait for the end of the world. Yes, the world will surely end. But right now, make use of what you have. Use your talents, opportunities, and life circumstances to spread the word of God. Whenever God so decides to call you, let it be that you can render an account of how you used your life, your gifts, and your talents to win souls for him.
As we look forward to sharing in the heavenly worship as described by John in today’s first reading, let us not give up our faith and hope. Let us never get into despair or assume that God does not care for us anymore.
Like the master who traveled leaving the servants behind with his talents, life on earth may sometimes seem as if God is absent but the truth is that He is always present. He sees everything we do with our lives every moment. Trust him and carry on.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, help me to make the best use of my little time here. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (Wednesday of week 33 in Ordinary Time. Bible Study: Rev. 4:1-11, Ps. 150, Luke 19:11-28)
