The Guardian Angels

Monday, 2 October 2023. Read Zechariah 8:1-8, Ps. 102:16-21,29,22-23, Matthew 18:1-5,10

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

In terms of their nature, angels are spirits. However, in terms of their function, they are messengers. While there are so many spirits both in heaven and on earth, angels are those spirits who serve as messengers. All angels are messengers, but the archangels deliver messages of high importance.

The Guardian angels are messengers from God assigned to each person to guide and protect them. Every human being has a guardian angel. Whether we are conscious of them or not, they continue to function in their specific task of protecting us. Know this: You are never alone. Regardless of your situation, there is always an angel with you.

Today’s memorial is a reminder of the existence of guardian angels. These spirits are real. We must learn to develop relationships with them because they are always beside us. Learn to engage your guardian angel in conversations often. In the book of Exodus, God instructs: “Give heed to him and listen to his voice… if you listen attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies.” (Exodus 23:21-22).

In other words, God assures us that if we listen to our guardian angels and do what they tell us, we will be protected from our enemies. God will be an enemy to our enemies. What other protection do we need? Why run from pillar to post out of fear, forgetting that you are not alone?

Dear friends, it doesn’t end there. There are also great consequences for refusing to listen to the voice of our guardian angels. God says: “Do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression” (Exodus 23:21). Your guardian angel protects you in two ways: warning you ahead of impending danger or fighting for you to remove the danger.

If you learn to listen to your spirit (your guardian angel), you will not go to certain places or be involved in certain deals. You will feel something trying to stop you from what would have brought you great danger. The more you converse with your guardian angel, the less fearful you become.

Jesus warned his disciples in today’s Gospel passage, saying, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10). What other assurances of Divine Protection do we need?

Let us pray: Almighty, ever-living God, draw me nearer to you through my Guardian Angel. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (The Holy Guardian Angels. Bible Study: Zechariah 8:1-8, Ps. 102:16-21,29,22-23, Matthew 18:1-5,10).
