THE GOD OF A SECOND CHANCE. (Homily for Tuesday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time. Year B.)

Bible Study:  Jonah 3, 1 to 10. And Luke 10, 38 to 42.

The story of Jonah speaks volume about the mercy of God. Our God is a God of the second chance. He loves to see us repent and turn from our sins. As our first reading today goes, “Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah the SECOND TIME, saying…”

After making Jonah pass through that ordeal of being in the belly of the fish, God could have decided to let him be, but God gave him a second chance, another opportunity to be do what was right.

The people of Nineveh too were also given a Second Chance by God. They had been marked out for destruction but for the fact that they listened to Jonah, they proclaimed a fast, God took pleasure in their repentance and decided not to inflict punishment anymore.

The mercy of God is like an ocean. It is so deep and so mysterious. We cannot fully understands how God would let admit a person into heaven even after living a ‘terrible life’ according to our judgement while another would have to go to hell for sins committed. It simply shows that none of us can judge another person.

In the Gospel passage, Martha was judgemental of Mary. She couldn’t understand why Jesus would keep her by his feet instead of realising how lazy and disrespectful she was by not coming to help out in kitchen work. But to her greatest surprise, Jesus said Mary had chosen the better part. Chaiiiiii

I hope at the last day we too would not be told that the people we now judge and condemn as sinners have chosen the better part?

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, help me to repent from my sins daily and live entirely for you alone. Amen.

Good morning. Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you.
