Stop Complaining; Just Trust and Obey.

Thursday 2nd September 2021. Read Colossians 1:9-14, Psalm 52 and Luke 5:1-11

“Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5)

Jesus said to Peter: “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Peter complained: “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing!” Like Peter, we always tend to have excuses for not obeying God’s commandments. But it is precisely at such moments that we get our miracles.

When Peter saw the great catch, he knew that only God could do this. His eyes were open. He fell down at Jesus’ knees saying: “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” An encounter with God helps us to come to terms with our nothingness. Disobedience to God is a function of our spiritual blindness. If you really know God, you would be too afraid to disobey His Commands.

Jesus then said to Peter, “Do not be afraid, henceforth you will be catching men.” God allows certain things to happen to us so that our eyes can be open to His presence in our lives. Have you encountered God? Do not keep it to yourself. Share your story and like Peter, you too will catch men for God.

After the great catch of fish, Peter and his team left everything to follow Jesus. They did not go after the fish itself but after Him who caused the great catch. Do not worship the blessings (miracles) that God gives to you. Worship God instead. And even if blessings do not come, remember that we brought nothing to this world and we shall take nothing with us – God alone is enough!

St. Paul says to the Colossians today; “Lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Avoid excuses, avoid complaining, just trust and obey.

Let us pray:  Lord Jesus, deepen my trust in you. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (Thursday of week 22 in Ordinary Time. Bible Study: Colossians 1:9-14, Psalm 52 and Luke 5:1-11).
