Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled

Friday 13th May 2022. Read Acts 13:26-33, Ps. 2:6-11, John 14:1-6

“Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1)

Today, Jesus beautifully assures us: “let not your hearts be troubled.” How? We may ask. Jesus says: “Believe in God, believe also in me.” So long as we are still on earth, there would always be something to make us worried.

Being worried is not a reflex action, it is how we choose to react to the events of our lives. When we worry, we attempt to use our minds to control our world but it never works; worry doesn’t change anything. We have the power to decide not to worry no matter what is going on.

“In my Father’s house are many rooms.” With this statement, Jesus seeks to draw our attention away from this world; to make us think of heaven itself. In truth, none of our problems (the things that worry us now) will be relevant in heaven.

Jesus has already gone to prepare a place of rest and peace for us. We cannot live forever on earth. We are only pilgrims here. Pray, do what you can, and leave the let God do the rest. Having committed a problem in God’s hands, you are not permitted to take it back. Worrying about something you have prayed for already is a sign of doubting what God can do.

In today’s first reading, St. Paul teaches us that Jesus Christ was persecuted by a people he came to save. Even though they did not recognize Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah, they helped bring to fulfillment all the prophecies concerning Jesus. The people who killed Jesus did not even know they were helping to prove his authenticity as the Messiah.

Think of it this way: those people making life difficult for you now may just be helping to bring out the best in you. If Peninnah had not provoked Hannah to tears, do you think she would have prayed for a child in the way she did to the extent that Eli thought she was drunk? Let not your heart be troubled. God knows why things are the way they are today. Keep trusting Him.

Thomas wanted to be very sure so he asked Jesus for the way. And Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” In other words, nothing is certain in this life, there are no guarantees; Jesus alone is our guarantee. Jesus alone is the way.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, increase my faith and cast away my fears and worries. Amen

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. (Friday of the 4th week of Eastertide. Bible Study: Acts 13:26-33, Ps. 2:6-11, John 14:1-6)
