Bible Study:
Isaiah 65, 17 to 21. John 4, 43 to 54.
In today’s
Gospel passage, we are presented with the extraordinary faith of Galilean
official whose son was ill. He pleaded with Jesus to come and heal his son but
Jesus was not willing to go with him. Jesus said to him: “Unless you see signs
and wonders, you will not believe.” This was meant to test to extent of his
faith.
A priest
once told a story of a woman who came to see him for prayers and counselling
and after everything he prayed one “Hail Mary” and “Glory Be” and said to her, “Woman,
go your way, it is well with you.” But then, she was like: “Is that all? Just like
that? You mean, you are not going to speak in tongues and call down fire upon
my enemies? This is why I prefer to go to fire-brand pastors.”
The priest
smiled gently and told her that it was faith that matters not the multiplicity
of prayers nor the acrobatic display of dramatic moves to create an impression
of power. This was exactly what Jesus wanted to let the official know. That was
why without even praying, Jesus simply told him: “Go; your son will live.” The
man BELIEVED and went his way.
And behold,
at that very hour, his son became well.
Dear
friends, let us not be carried away by actors on stage pretending to be
something else so as to win credit to themselves. It is only God who has power
over life and death, and he alone deserves our faith.
Let us
Pray:
Lord
Jesus, I believe in you, only say your word and I shall be healed. Amen.
God bless
you. Good morning. Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. Happy
new week.
