Homily for April 6, 2018.
“Be it
known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this
man is standing before you well. This is the stone which was rejected by you
builders, but which has become the head of the corner.” Acts 4:10-11.
Too often,
we take Jesus for granted trusting in our strength, our wisdom or our financial
resources. We forget to pray not because we really do not have the time but
because we do not see the need to pray. We never forget to eat but we can
afford to go for days without talking to God.
Hence,
this is what becomes of us: we look for fish all night long and end up catching
nothing. We work and work and do not see the fruits of our endless work. We
battle for days and nights and we end up with nothing. We are like the
disciples of Jesus who put aside the mandate of Jesus to “Go ye into all the
world and preach the Gospel” and decided to return to their fishing trade.
How good
is your spiritual life? When last did you really connect with God? When last
did you meditate on a portion of the Bible? Dear friends, without Jesus in our
lives, all our efforts are wasted. Jesus is our corner stone, as he himself
said, he is the vine, we are the branches, cut off from him, we can do nothing.
John 15:1-8.
After
Peter had cured the lame man at the Beautiful gate, he incurred the anger of
the Sadducees and the chief priests. He was asked: “By what power or by what
name did you do this?” Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter gave a response to
them making it clear that it was the Power of the Resurrected Jesus that was at
work; the same Jesus rejected by the Sadducees and chief priests is now the
Corner Stone.
Jesus is
the Corner stone of our lives. We cannot survive without Jesus. We cannot
afford to make Jesus second class in our lives. If Jesus does not go with us,
all we do is in vain.
Let us
Pray: Lord Jesus, draw me nearer to you everyday. Amen.
Be Happy.
Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (Friday of
Easter Octave. Bible Study: Acts 4:1-12 and John 21:1-14).
