Bible Study: Acts 5, 17 to 26 and John
3, 16 to 21.
Of all the various pursuits human beings may engage in, there is
only one for which there are absolutely no regrets, one which comes only with
great advantages and this is the task of building and growing a personal
relationship with God. Whether we like it or not, there is always one goal we
set for ourselves that pushes us on and determines our scale of preferences,
where we go and what we do; that one goal could be the desire to make a lot of
money, the desire to build an empire, the desire to be world famous and so on
and so on. But then, we are only assured of success if the one goal we set for
ourselves is a deeper communion with God. This is because, when it comes to
building a spiritual life, God himself always comes in to intervene.
A glimpse of God’s intervention is what we read about in today’s
first reading. The Apostles were thrown into prison by the powers that be for
preaching in the name of Christ. But that very night, God sent an angel to take
them out and bring them into the temple area. The following morning, the chief
priests gathered to judge their case and they sent for the men they had put in
prison only for them to receive the shock of their lives: the prison gates were
securely locked but there was nobody inside.
God has a way of defending his children. Even though at times, things
may look as though God is quiet or that he simply allows us to suffer, we must
never forget one thing that so long as it is God that we seek, so long as we
have decided to make God our Number One in life, we can never go wrong! God
sees everything that happens to us, he knows and he understands. Our responsorial
Psalm sings: “The Lord hears the cry of the poor.”
As beautiful as building a relationship with God sounds, it may
interest you to know that more than ninety per cent of the people you know do
not really give a damn about God and this includes your fellow Christians. God
is not number one in their life and as Jesus said to Nicodemus, light has come into
the world but we humans prefer darkness instead. As such, you become like a
single individual swimming against a vast ocean. If you are not ready to be
different, then be ready to swept off by the current.
The spiritual life is not a rosy path and it is definitely not
for the lazy at heart, it is one that requires discipline, hard work and a
resolute determination never to give up despite pressure from the world. Like the
Apostles, many will misunderstand you, hate you and fight hard to destroy you
because even the powers that be today prefer darkness to light but do not give
up. In the end, it is not your personal battle because you are always in the
palm of God’s hands.
Let us Pray:
Lord Jesus, give me the courage to
build my spiritual life by making you my sole aim and objective in life. Amen.
God bless you. Good morning. Be
Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you.
