THE MIRACLE OF PROVIDENCE. (Homily for MONDAY of the 18th Week in Ordinary Time).

Bible Study: Numbers 11:4-15. / Matthew 14:13-21.

Our readings this morning re-echo several points from that of yesterday; the fact that the people of Israel grumbled for food wishing they were back to Egypt, the fact that Moses prayed to God about it and God was not happy with the people, even the Gospel acclamation is exactly the same as that of yesterday and the Gospel passage itself (the miracle of the multiplication of loaves) points to the fact that God cares deeply for us and has what it takes to provide our most basic needs.

Rather than complain, these readings challenge us to have a deep trust in God. We may not have everything we so desire but it does not mean that God is incapable of providing our needs.

Two Sundays ago, we sang in the responsorial psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.” This is a psalm that shows us how much of a shepherd God is to us and how he is ever willing to prepare a table for us.

And in today’s responsorial psalm, we see a better alternative to complaining. It says “Sing joyfully to God our strength.” In moments when you are tempted to ask God questions like the Israelites, it is better to sing of his praises.

One song I like to sing in times of great distress such as that which the Isrealites were going through is GOD WILL MAKE A WAY by Don Moen.

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength
For each new day
He will make a way
He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness
He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, deepen my trust in you always. Amen.

Good morning. Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you.
