Bible
Study: Deut. 30, 15 to 20. Luke 9, 22 to
25).
We have
begun the season of Lent. Yesterday, we received ashes to remind us that we are
nothing but dust. Today, we are being reminded that even though we are mere
dust, we have the power to determine the course of our lives. God does not and
will never impose his will on us. We are always free to obey or refuse to obey
him.
Lent is a
time people tend to wake up their spiritualties and you become encouraged by
others seeing them fasting, praying extra or abstaining from certain bad
habits. However, ensure that whatever spiritual exercise you embark upon is
coming from deep within you and not merely cosmetic. You must make up your mind
and ensure you are fully convinced about your choices this season.
Even
though we are reminded of our freedom to choose today, our readings do not hide
the fact that there is a bad choice as well as a good choice. The bad choice is
to ignore God and live as though he does not exist, it is deafening your ears
against his commandments and living according to the standards of the world.
This is the popular choice and many prefer it because it affords them the
luxuries and pleasures of this life.
The good
choice is gladly accepting to carry the cross with all its bitterness and pain.
The good choice is letting go of all that life has to offer so as to save it in
eternity. “For whoever loses his life for my sake, he will save it.” The good
choice is self-denial. Keeping God’s commandments requires that we let go of
something precious or something natural to us as human beings. That is why none
of them is easy to keep yet the choice is ours to deny ourselves OR to shun the
cross.
Let us
Pray:
Lord
Jesus, help me to choose right and avoid sin. Amen.
God bless you. Good morning. Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is
well with you.
