HOW TO SETTLE GRIEVANCES; THE CHRISTIAN WAY. (Homily for September 6, 2016. Tuesday of the 23rd Week in Ordinary Time.)

Bible Study: 1ST Corinthians 6, 1 to 11 and Luke 6, 12 to 19.

I once saw a sticker on the back of a vehicle. It read: “Don’t waste your time shouting, talk to a lawyer.” It was very funny to read but I could see the truth in it. Obviously, the owner of the car was a lawyer and that was his own way of advertising his trade.

According to St. Paul in our first reading today, it would be a shame for fellow Christians to take their grievances before unbelievers for settlement. In every community, there should be a Christian of high repute who can settle matters between fellow Christians but should it happen that there is no such person, St. Paul is saying instead of just running off to get a lawyer who perhaps might not even be a Christian, it would even be better to allow ourselves to be cheated or defrauded. Better be wronged than having to wash your dirty linens outside

Nonetheless, we should realize that those who do evil, those who hurt us badly will surely receive their reward in the end. It is not for us to seek justice at all costs, God himself who is Just will allow Justice will serve its due course in time. It is more powerful to carry your grievances to God directly than to talk to people. It is better to open your heart to God than to persons who may be biased and pass a wrong judgement.

In today’s Gospel passage, Jesus spends a whole night in prayer. He knew he wanted to choose his apostles but instead of going to consult from people, instead of asking the chief priests who and who are qualified for the job, Jesus went straight to God in prayer. Jesus consulted God rather than men. No wonder, the people he eventually choose were able to successfully to carry on the mission.

Dear friends, it is better to carry your grievances, your worries and troubles to God than to consult people. If at all, we should even talk to persons at all, they must be good Christians not to mention non-Christians.

Let Us Pray:
Lord Jesus, let your spirit dwell within me to enlighten me and work with me. Amen.

Good morning. Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you.
