FAITH IS EVERYTHING. (Homily for October 6, 2016. Thursday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time.)

Bible Study: Galatians 3, 1 to 5 and Luke 11, 5 to 13.

Faith according to the book of Hebrews 11:1 is the “assurance of things not seen and the evidence of things hoped for.” And going further in verse 6, it adds “without Faith, it is impossible to please God.”

This is the basis of St. Paul’s harsh words to the Galatians in today’s first reading. We became converted to Christianity not because of our actions but because we had faith in what was preached to us. We believed and we were given the Spirit. Faith is very important, it is the foundation and springboard of our worship of God. Without faith, we cannot carry out any good deed.

Faith is the opposite of fear. While fear is expecting a negative outcome based on one’s present realities, faith is not just expecting the best but becoming fully satisfied already in the present knowing that there is something positive is on the way. Faith is living in a magical world so to say whereby nothing happens out of mere coincidence.

The universe has certain laws that were put there by God. These laws are always true. Faith is understanding the laws and using them to one’s advantage. For instance if you throw something up, it doesn’t fall down by coincidence. It falls because of the law of gravity.

You can control your destiny simply by understanding how to put faith into action. Another law of motion states that “to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” I like to read this law as: “to every prayer, there is an equal and corresponding answer.” This is the law of asking which Jesus talks about in today’s Gospel passage.

“And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, increase my faith. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you.
