QUALITIES OF A GOOD LEADER. (Homily for November 7, 2016. Monday of the 32nd Week in Ordinary Time.)

Bible Study:  Titus 1, 1 to 9 and Luke 17, 1 to 6.

What makes a leader great? St. Paul answers this question in today’s first reading as taken from his letter to the young Bishop, Titus. These are the qualities that makes one a great leader.

1. BLAMELESS.

2. NOT ARROGANT.

3. NOT IRRITABLE.

4. NOT A DRUNKARD.

5. NOT AGGRESSIVE.

6. NOT GREEDY.

7. HOSPITABLE.

8. A LOVER OF GOODNESS.

9. TEMPERATE.

10. JUST, HOLY.

11. SELF-CONTROLLED.

12. HOLDING FAST to SOUND DOCTRINE.

If we then go the Gospel passage, we hear Jesus talk about the fact that temptations are sure to come but woe betides the person through whom such temptations come. Should it so happen that a leader is one who causes his flock to sin, Jesus says it will “better for such a person to be thrown into the sea with a millstone around his neck.”

A good leader always shows good example. He doesn’t just preach but is always found to practice what he preaches. A good leader will never scandalize his followers.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, give us grace to lead by example. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. Happy new week.
