Study: Philippians 4, 10 to 19 and Luke 16, 9 to 15.
In our first reading this morning, St. Paul prayed for the Philippians while
appreciating them for their kindness in providing for his personal needs in the
course of his evangelization outreach. He said: “May God supply all your needs
according to his riches in Glory.”
Today, many of us Christians take this verse out of its proper context. We
tell ourselves “My God is not a poor God!” We even see poverty as a curse. Yet,
while shouting the prayer of St. Paul that God will supply all our needs, we forget
to tap into the POWER OF KINDNESS which was what made St. Paul utter the prayer
to the Philippians.
If you cannot help others like the Philippians helped Paul, why would
you expect to God supply your needs according to his riches in glory?
The bottom line is that we cannot serve both God and money. It is either
we worship God with our money or we worship money in the name of worshipping
God. Yes, we are ready to do anything for money but we only worship God just so
that our worship would bring us riches and prosperity. We claim to worship God
but when money is involved, we let down our moral guards. We lie, we steal, we
cheat and deceive others just so as to make worship. We are more afraid of
losing money than we are afraid of losing our closeness to God.
If it is God that we actually serve, then we would not be seeking
miracles of prosperity and abundance. And again, if we really put God first in
our lives, we would not restrain ourselves when it comes to giving to the work
of the mission.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, increase my love for you. Amen.
Be Happy.
Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. Happy Saturday.
